Velu, the flutist

Image
It was a dreary Saturday afternoon and it triggered the whim of all the hostelites for a stroll. But we could do it only unbeknown to our hostel warden whose rigid monastery life hampered her from supporting the lifestyle of youngsters. Then, a question emerged was  with regard to the location! I always preferred random unplanned locations over the planned ones as the former always surprised us with their element of novelty. Eventually, we came to a covenant to go somewhere nearby as it’s already late for a venture to a remote place.  Our compulsive desire got bloomed when the permission was granted with the help of the pack of lies that we had spread in front of the warden. If anyone had any desire to be truthful throughout life, it would get vanished or at least get diminished in the presence of our warden Ms. Preskilla as she denied all the genuine requests. Gradually everyone learned the tactics to bring her in line.  When we reached the college yard it was ...

The Boxes

Image
I was so curious about the thin rectangular black box which my dadda carried with him every now and then. I noticed him with parted lips talking over it at times politely, sometimes harsh, and on the other times with so much love and happiness. I got confused recoking why is he chatting with a box and why is he feeling ire with it while it is always being silent! It was seen quite invariably. My mamma also had a box with an amber colour. Shortly afterwards, I came to a conviction that it's something very significant or some indispensable part of life.  Later on, I clocked an opportunity to touch it with my bare hands. I felt it as heavy in my little hands despite of its thin appearance. Just like my parents, I held it with one hand and drew lines here and there with the tip of my tiny fingers. To my dismay, I saw variagated hues sparkling over it with a vibration. Suddenly my mama snatched it from my hands. I was heartbroken and started whining. My shrill voice pierced ...

Mydala Lake

Image
It’s nothing short of an alluring place where one can vent all the stress out. Never have I seen a lake unfenced so far in my life in Bengaluru, until my eyes could feast on the Mydala lake which is around 65 kilometres away from the city. The mesmerising arena is a blend of three magnificent sights: the sunset, the giant boulders and the pale blue coloured lake. The gentle breeze curls up above the water- spread and the foreshore areas. It was around five o’clock in the evening when I reached the Mydala lake with my bubbly gang. The vehicles could reach so close to the lakeside that only a few steps could make it . Even though the lakefront was not sandy, the rocky shore substituted it so well that we could sit and relax without getting anxious of getting muddy on all over our outfit. The breezy air that emerged from the far away hills fondled us top to toe. After playing in the water and skimming stones awhile, we withdrew to the area of rocky land with giant ...

Dancing Doll

Image
It was the constant rings from my friend who lived miles away in native that woke me up from my slumber. My eyes that were half opened and unwilling to greet the morning rays checked the time. It was 07.30 in the morning. In my life schedule that was the wee hours of the day as I was a night owl. My roomies who could not tolerate even the subtle entrance of hunger had gone to fill their tummies except Angel as she always used to follow her own routines. I answered the call tediously as the sleep still lingered over my head. But the response literarily shattered me to the abyss… I couldn’t wipe it out from my ears even after the passage of the very eighteen years. "Maggy, your brother!!!! Your brother!!!” As she couldn’t bear the heaviness of her heart she disconnected the call. I dread to think of it even after the passage of a couple of lustrums. My heart was in my mouth…my eyes got wide opened…If there was even a tinge of sleep it was propelled at the blink of an eye...

Hailstones

Image
Hailstones I wait for that day of downpour,    When hailstones shower from the sky. I relish keeping them on my palms, Enduing merrily the icy cold. I scan its melting process, Getting thinner and thinner bit by bit... Oozing cold water to sip..... Its splendor outshining the - Refrigerated ice cubes. But the fleeting pleasure, Of the melting hailstones! My psyche persist in coaxing me, To seek something worthful, Creating a perennial appeal, In the transitory moments of life, To leave behind when we melt down.
